MINISTRY OF ENERGY PLANS MAJOR ENERGY PROJECTS IN 2023, INCLUDING A "NATIONAL ENERGY PLAN"

The Ministry of Energy via the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) is drafting the "National Energy Plan 2023 - 2037”. The new plan is to integrate and combine the current five plans into one plan which consists of 1. National Power Development Plan, 2. Renewable and alternative energy development plan, 3. Energy Conservation Plan, 4. Natural Gas Management Plan, and 5. Fuel Management Plan.

Here are some key policies:

• Increasing the proportion of renewable energy and clean energy from new power plants - by increase electricity generation from new capacity to over 50%
• Promote the conversion of the transportation sector to green electricity through use of electric vehicle technology according to the 30@30 policy.
• Increase energy efficiency by more than 30 – 40%
• Adjust the infrastructure to support the energy transition according to the 4D1E approach, such as developing a distributed and resilient power system including changing the form of energy consumption into electrical energy.

EPPO has plans for EVs by driving infrastructure development plans including promoting the installation of electric charging stations. It is drafting the first comprehensive grid modernization investment plan for 2022 – 2027. This is an integration of investment and prioritization of projects of the 3 utilities in terms of the generation system, transmission system, and distribution system.
