The Excise Department is in the process of studying tax collection on the following areas. The direction is expected to be announced by the end of this fiscal year 2023:

• Collection of a Carbon Tax: The study is focusing on 2 forms: Collecting directly from the producer where products that emit a lot of carbon will be taxed and the other is collected from carbon emissions from the production process itself.
• Bioplastics: Studying the use of ESG and BCG in using ethanol to make plastic. This will support the ethanol market that will increase supply in the future via the use of EVs. It will also open the opportunity for Thailand to become a bioplastic production base. The Department will support this by charging a 0% tax rate.
• Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF): A European concept of adding ethanol to petrol which is currently being studied.
